4 Effective Ways to Recover the Calm and Peace of the Spirit

There are times when, as a result of the demands placed upon us by the modern world, we lose sight of how important it is to have the conviction that the Peace of the Lord lives in our hearts.

We can even get to the point of forgetting the need for that Peace and this is essentially due to a wrong or distorted perspective that we form of things.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

There are many and varied reasons why we lose the Peace that Christ has sown in our hearts. The pressure that the current society exerts on us causes us to lose our cool easily. This lack of harmony and balance translates into pathologies such as insomnia, panic attacks, stress, and phobias that we can hardly control.

How to recover the Peace that we have lost?

It is important to recognize, then, what is the true peace that the Highest gives us. Because one thing very different is what we can interpret as Peace and another is what our Heavenly Father selflessly offers us.

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.” 2 Thessalonians 3:16

Peace is a word that we use very often, and if you ask us what it means, we will probably give a very similar definition to the one in dictionaries. We will say that Peace is the absence of conflict, the eradication of wars, and violence. This interpretation is correct, but the authentic Peace is much more.

The Peace that the Word of the Lord gives us through Jesus is the lack of disorders in our Souls, it is Balance and Harmony reigning in our hearts even in the most difficult moments that we must face. To achieve this long-awaited Peace it is necessary to constantly reaffirm ourselves in the Faith.

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15

We must understand that the Peace of Spirit with which God blesses us, is one of the most difficult things to find, and even though we aspire to it and seek it with all our heart, we can fall into the error of trying to get it in the wrong places. Some seek it assuming that they will find it in the accumulation of wealth, others will try to acquire it by putting all their energy into reaching places of power or fame. We can also fall into practices that are harmful to our health and environment.

That is why it is vitally important to remain calm in this search, avoiding rushing to keep from straying from the Path that God has designed for us. What we carry in the depths of our being are the Blessings received over the years and therefore there is only one place where we can find the true Peace we need: in the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Let us keep in mind that we cannot offer Peace to our brothers if we do not first have Peace with the Lord.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9

Let Peace grow in our minds and Spirit to flow from the Love of Christ into all our relationships and social interactions. In this way we can continue under His Perfect Guidance, honoring His Word under a wonderful perspective of the future. Let us rest in the presence of the Lord.

We must understand that the Peace of the Lord prevails over all our anxieties and fears, even when we do not find a solution to our concerns.

The quietness with which our Heavenly Father blesses us always grants Tranquility, Balance, and Harmony.
