Talking to the new generations about God is not a very hard task, we just have to see it as how it really was.

A God but a person

“No, for I have chosen him, that he may charge his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice; so that the Lord may bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.” Genesis 18:19

Since I was a child I had this image of God which is what I had so often seen illustrated in Bibles and at church, renaissance evocations and at times traumatizing. The concept of showing the new generations a more human God means a lot in terms of placing youths somewhere closer to Christ, to the effect of achieving a more realistic empathy when speaking to God.

A Revolutionary

“So now, O Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? Only to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the Lord your God and his decrees that I am commanding you today, for your own well-being.” Deuteronomy 10:12-13

Because Christ defied the established dogmas in a particularly violent age with an established empire; because His message that the first law of loving one another contradicted all the values of power in that age.

A Hero

“But those prophets or those who divine by dreams shall be put to death for having spoken treason against the Lord your God—who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery—to turn you from the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.” Deuteronomy 13:5

Let's remember that Christ not only imparted His word, but He was also consistent and assumed the risks of His words, even though they sometimes attempted against His own life. That shows us God's heroism, upon giving His own son for our salvation.

A born leader

“Take good care to observe the commandment and instruction that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, and to hold fast to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.” Joshua 22:5

Let's remember that the faithful did not follow Jesus for no reason; let's also remember who followed Him: it was not the rich, it was the poor, people with no hope who God sheltered and told them that the invitation to paradise was also extended to them, to a world in which they would not want for anything. 

All love

“But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I shall come out like gold. My foot has held fast to his steps; I have kept his way and have not turned aside. I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured in my bosom the words of his mouth.” Job 23:10-12

Because it all comes back to the message God wanted to send, that nothing is possible without love. And the message did arrive, and a long time later our children know the message that does not stop circulating.
