Never Doubt About the Power of Faith

"I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love." Ephesians 3:16-17

Everyone has their own temptations. Take a few moments to reflect and identify your personal temptations. Then, detect the personality traits that lead you into temptation: perhaps you are insecure or never satisfied with yourself, perhaps you prioritize pleasure over responsibility. No two people are exactly alike; what tempts you may be similar to what tempts your friends, family or other acquaintances, but it is most likely unique to you.


"But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind." James 1:6

Set reasonable goals to combat temptation. When it comes to fighting temptation, you should consider the fact that as a human being you are incapable of being perfect. Do not set an unattainable goal such as "I will never sin again". If you do, you will be destined for disappointment. Keep in mind that you will inevitably sin again. So set realistic goals that take this into account.

Be responsible for yourself. You were not blessed with self-will for nothing, so don't waste the opportunity to consciously act against temptation. Make up your mind and take action now, and make it your goal not to succumb to temptation. The hardest part of it may be just beginning, it is important not to sabotage this aspect before it has begun by telling yourself that you will not be able to achieve it.


"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13

Turn your back on the sins of the past. The only thing you will not be able to change about yourself will be your past, do not allow yourself to be burdened with remorse for the sins you have committed in the past. The only right path is the one that goes forward, toward righteousness. If your past is marked by sin, acknowledge your mistakes without feeling excessively guilty. Build on the foundation of your past mistakes and strive never to make them again. Even if you relapse, you will have made great progress with respect to your sinful past.


"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Hebrews 11:6

Avoid situations and people that lead you to sin. Certain people, places and situations make sin easier to commit. Certain sins would be impossible without the right environment or people. Make sure you stay away from whatever leads you to sin. If certain friends are almost always trying to convince you to commit acts unworthy of the Lord, don't hang out with them anymore. By distracting yourself from people and things related to sin, you will eliminate the opportunities for sin and be less likely to fall.
