Cleaning our Heart

Cleaning our heart of negative feelings is a very good idea, but it must be sincere and definitive.

"Peter approached Jesus and asked him," Lord, how many times do I have to forgive my brother who sins against me? Up to seven times? “I don't tell you that up to seven times, but up to seventy-seven times” - he replied - Jesus. Mateo  18:21-22

Many times we get fed up with those little things that we don't like about our lives or our personality and we want to make a resounding change. It is common in such cases to make a list of the things we want to permanently eradicate.

“You, Lord, are good and forgiving; great is Your love for all who call upon you.” Psalms 86:5

First we must take care of ourselves and eliminate any trace of negative feelings that may harm us in the future. Searching conscientiously in our hearts if there is someone we have offended is a good start.

“He who conceals his sin never thrives; who confesses it and leaves it, finds forgiveness.” Proverbs 28:13

Asking forgiveness to those who we offended is the logical step to follow, but consider that this must come directly from our heart to achieve true forgiveness, otherwise, it would only be words of no value.

"And when you are praying, if you have anything against someone, forgive him, so that his Father who is in heaven may forgive you for your sins." Mark  11:25

Once we have "cleared" our debts with others, it is time to focus our attention on those whom, for one reason or another, we have not yet forgiven. Let us keep in mind that many times, looking from the distance of time, we forget the initial reason why they have offended us and we only continue with anger by inertia.

“He is the sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins, and not only for ours but for those of the whole world.” John  2:2

Then, having all this in mind, it will be much easier for us to finally forgive offenses that in the distance will seem childish since, we must remember, time heals everything. But at this point we must be extremely careful not to incur new offenses ourselves and also respect other's wishes to continue their anger: It is there that time also plays an important role.

“Tear your heart and not your clothes. Turn to the Lord your God, because He is kind and compassionate, slow to anger and full of love, change your mind and do not punish. ”Joel  2:13

Finally, we already know that it is our duty as children of God to make good feelings and positive things multiply as it is the desire of Christ, so that way we should urge all those we have forgiven, to do the same as we do, so that we begin to weave that network of good feelings that will lead us to complete the world´s love plan that our Father seeks.
